## What is Qwen?

Alibaba's LLM family (通义千问 / Tongyi Qianwen consumer product). Brand consolidation in May 2025 unified Alibaba's AI products under Qwen. Provider: **DashScope international** (`dashscope-intl.aliyuncs.com/compatible-mode/v1`) — NOT BytePlus. (Doubao is BytePlus.)

In our 540-call panel: 85.0% Mainland-CN sources, with the within-CN mix tilted toward regulatory bodies, professional associations, academic institutions. Most institutional of the three engines.

## How Qwen decides what to recommend

Three families surface more heavily than on DeepSeek / Doubao:

- **Regulatory / government-body content** — 国家药品监督管理局 (NMPA), 国家卫生健康委员会 (NHC), 中国证监会 (CSRC), 工业和信息化部 (MIIT), category-equivalent ministry-level bodies.
- **Vertical industry / professional associations** — 中华口腔医学会, 中国汽车工业协会, 中国食品工业协会, etc.
- **Academic / university-affiliated content** — IEEE / arXiv / academic conferences for technology, medicine, engineering categories.

Western secondary surface on Qwen is institutional rather than community: arXiv > Reddit, ministry whitepapers > Wikipedia, university research > YouTube.

Reliability: top-5 κ = 1.00; top-15 κ = 0.78 (better than Doubao's 0.46, slightly behind DeepSeek's 0.89).

## How to improve Qwen visibility

**1-hour layer:** standard granular robots.txt + llms.txt + sitemap + IndexNow + Markdown alternates.

**Multi-week layer:** cite primary regulatory documents (with URLs); cite category industry-association reports; cite peer-reviewed academic work where defensible. Not "schema makes Qwen authoritative" — "cite the same authority surfaces Qwen cites".

**Multi-quarter layer (Qwen-specific):**
- Industry association whitepapers, member listings.
- Regulatory listings — NMPA product registrations, NHC facility listings, equivalent.
- Academic / university co-publication. Sponsored research with named institutional authorship surfaces more reliably than press-release equivalents.
- Trade press with regulatory remit.

## What to avoid

- Confusing Qwen with Doubao — different APIs (DashScope vs BytePlus), different source mixes.
- Assuming schema markup will reach Qwen — Bing/Copilot signal in our sample, not observed driving Qwen citations.
- Over-weighting community platforms (Zhihu / Xiaohongshu) for Qwen — they surface but at lower rates than DeepSeek / Doubao.
- Promising "Qwen visibility lift" for unregulated categories without clear regulatory-ladder reading — DeepSeek + Doubao path may dominate instead.
