## What is Doubao?

豆包 — ByteDance's consumer AI assistant. Younger Mainland-CN audience (same as Douyin, Toutiao). Provider: **BytePlus ModelArk international** (`ark.ap-southeast.bytepluses.com/api/v3`) — NOT DashScope. (Qwen is DashScope.)

Most CN-substrate-biased of the three: 88.6% Mainland-CN sources in our 540-call panel. Within-CN mix tilts toward commerce / lifestyle aggregators (SMZDM, Xiaohongshu, Bilibili). For aspirational consumer / FMCG / beauty / travel categories, often the engine where category-level brand surfacing is most decisive.

## How Doubao decides what to recommend

**Caveats:**

- Handbag-specific. Does NOT transfer to other categories.
- Price-tier-specific. SMZDM weight collapses at ultra-luxury (DS aspirational ≤¥10K = 100%; DS ultra ¥30K+ = 33%). Replacement stack at ultra-luxury: The Purse Forum, Vogue Business, WWD, Sotheby's / Christie's auction archives, Baghunter.

**Reliability:**

- Top-5 source membership perfectly stable (κ = 1.00).
- Top-15 ranking less stable (κ = 0.46) — granular-tag normalisation issue; treat top-5 as actionable, top-15 with caveat.

## How to improve Doubao visibility

**1-hour layer:** granular robots.txt — verify Bytespider isn't silently blocked by overbroad rules. llms.txt + sitemap + IndexNow + Markdown alternates.

**Multi-week layer:** review-and-comparison aggregator content design. Side-by-side comparisons, named entity callouts, dated price/feature comparisons. 1,000–3,000 word sweet spot. Avoid FAQ-format padding.

**Multi-quarter layer:**
- **SMZDM** — category placements, "好价" deal mentions, editorial mentions in category roundups.
- **Xiaohongshu** — KOC notes, product mentions, category-tag presence. Engagement-weighted algorithm.
- **Bilibili** — long-form video review presence; category-relevant creators surface.
- **Douyin / Toutiao** — ByteDance ecosystem signals over-weighted.
- **Ultra-luxury caveat:** aggregator stack collapses. The Purse Forum, Vogue Business, WWD, auction archives, Baghunter take its place. Plan source-graph investment by price tier explicitly.

## What to avoid

- "Doubao = ByteDance ecosystem only" — wrong. SMZDM and Xiaohongshu (neither ByteDance-owned) are core surfaces.
- Generalising 72% SMZDM across categories — handbag-panel-specific, price-tier-specific (33% at ultra-luxury).
- Trusting long-tail Doubao source rankings as decisive — top-5 stable, top-15 κ = 0.46.
